The rainbow goddess Iris is the herald of Zeus and Hera and carries all the news from heaven to the world through the rainbow. In Latin the name means “the eye of heaven”. Since the colors and lines of the iris flower resemble the symbol of the eye, this flower is named after this goddess. In ancient Greece, it is believed that every person carries a piece of heaven because all people have their "pupils".
